- Aggravating circumstances in your educational background, such as disabilities, chronic illnesses, caregiving responsibilities, student jobs, a non-academic family background, or a migration background.

2. Financial Aid for Finalising the Degree
Awarded by: German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Eligibility Criteria:
- If you are an international student at TUHH in need of financial assistance, you may be eligible to apply.
- To qualify, you must have received your university entrance qualification abroad and be nearing the end of your studies, with graduation from TUHH expected within 12 months.
- Additionally, a good academic record is required.
- For master’s students, applications are only accepted during the final semester of your studies.
Amount: Granted for up to 6 months. Income from student jobs, family support, or other non-monetary benefits will be deducted from the scholarship.

3. Merit Scholarships for International Students
Awarded by: Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Eligibility Criteria:
- If you are an international student at TUHH and require financial assistance, you may be eligible to apply.
- To qualify, you must have completed at least one semester at TUHH and demonstrate a good or very good academic record.

4. SDW-Scholarships
Awarded by: Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft (sdw), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Eligibility Criteria:
- If you are an international student from an EU member state studying at a state or state-recognised German university, you may be eligible to apply if you do not qualify for a student scholarship under § 8 BAföG.
- To be considered, you should demonstrate social commitment, possess above-average academic credits, and excel in teamwork.
- Additionally, you should have a well-rounded general education, be determined, and have a strong command of the German language.
Amount: Up to €525 per month, depending on income, plus a book allowance of €80 per month.

6. Performance Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria:

7. Merit Scholarships for International Students

Eligibility Criteria:
- If you are enrolled in a degree program at the University of Hamburg for at least two semesters, you may be eligible to apply.
- For students in two-year Master’s programs or doctoral researchers, you can apply after completing one semester.
- To qualify, you must not be a German citizen and must not be eligible for the federal student loan scheme (BAföG).

8. Studierendenwerk Hamburg
Awarded by: TUHH
Eligibility Criteria:
- If you are a foreign student not entitled to BAföG, you may be eligible for state funding to complete your studies, though there is no legal entitlement to this funding.
- To qualify, you must be able to complete your education no later than two semesters after submitting your application.
- Additionally, you must demonstrate a performance level that corresponds to your current semester.
- You will also need to prove financial need, showing that you have no financial support from your parents or other sources of funding.

TUHH Loans!
In addition to scholarships, you may also be able to get loans to help finance their studies:
- BAföG: Administered by the Studierendenwerk Hamburg, BAföG is a German student loan program that does not have to be fully repaid10. As a rule, half of the loan is a grant, while the other half must be repaid interest-free after graduation.
- Educational Loans: These loans can be taken out regardless of income and are available for up to 24 months. You can apply online at Bundesverwaltungsamt.
- Bank Loans: You can also apply for a loan from a bank, but these will accrue interest.
